Norell Furniture — Moveable Sanctum

There is something generational about a good piece of furniture. Whether it’s the sofa you put in your first apartment that now sits dutifully in your home for family nights. Or the chair your grandmother left behind that brings back memories of stories told and cuddles shared.

Our furniture tells two stories – ours and its own. It’s not just a statement piece or used to fit a style in our homes; it is part of the little history we bring to the moment and then leave behind. Our most beloved pieces become part of our families, part of our lives. Which makes it only more fitting that Norell Furniture has been a family business since its inception in 1954.

Norell Furniture — Brought to life by Arne Norell

Swedish furniture designer, Arne Norell, started his own shop in Solna, Sweden, before establishing the company in Småland.

While his same designs are now adorning many different places throughout the world – embassies, hotels, restaurants, and even the Swedish Parliament building, his vision for every piece of furniture has always remained steadfast.

And that vision is simple – find a piece that speaks to you.

Many of the models created by Arne didn’t go into production until after he died in 1971. However, the family continues to honor those pieces today with the same dedicated craftsmanship. One of those pieces that still sits firmly in their product line is the Sirocco safari chair.

‘Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly’ — Saint Francis de Sales

The Sirocco safari chair

The original Sirocco chair was created in 1964, and it is still handmade in the very same factory built by Arne Norell in the 1960s. A contemporary classic that embodies every aspect of an authentic safari chair.

Tärnsjö Garveri and Elmo Leather provide two exclusive premium leather options, but there are also more options to choose from, like canvas, to make the chair feel truly and uniquely your own.  To design a distinctive Sirocco, you can combine several leather, canvas, stitching, and wood finish colors – staying true to Norell’s values of comfort, function, durability, and eternal design.

‘It is always the simple that produces the marvellous’ — Amelia Barr

The Sirocco safari chair is joined by a matching ottoman and coffee table, all of which are part of Norell’s thoughtful range of designs which includes more expertly designed chairs and sofas. Another stand-out piece is the Ari chair, another one of Arne Norell’s original designs. This leather lounge chair makes a bold statement without taking over the room.

One thing is very clear about each piece of furniture designed and handcrafted at Norell. Each and every chair and sofa are a thoughtful design meant to ensure tasteful style just as much as it promises comfort and utility – a difficult balance to achieve but wonderfully effortless for this longstanding family business.

Without saying it, Norell’s handmade furniture offers the “from our family to yours” feel without explicitly stating it.

You can see that each piece has a purpose beyond its original concept, which makes it so easy to picture it occupying a welcome space within your home. It’s beautiful to see a concept that started nearly 70 years ago staying true to its original vision and purpose.
